Cinder & Skylark

Yeah yeah - its a Cape Town street-style blog. The pictures aren't the greatest but theres definitely a few gems in there.

Ray in NYC

My dear friend, the lovely Ray, is currently is New York City as its eponymous Fashion Week rounds off. Check out some of her behind-the-scenes snaps, and it looks like she got one of Anna Wintour - "Ray, how did your brain not explode upon this cataclysmic sighting?". Wow - so jealous.

Take Ivy

Definitely a fashion aesthetic I love - prepsters. This book should be their bible.

Bow Ties

Speaking of bow ties, check out these rad ones here. I am seriously considering adding them to my daily wardrobe. Tres Chic.

Haoshi rings

Oi! My postings have been taking a real backseat lately - which I am not cool with by the way. There is a lot I wanna share, but so little time.

Let's get to it then: I am so broke these days, I really do need to change things around. However, one day when I am uber riche, I will get one of these lovely rings by Haoshi. They have plenty more lovely things there, such as this awesome Merry-go-round clock.

Lladro figurines

I love these photographs by Bangkok label Sretsis. They're based on antique porcelain figurines - pretty close to the ones we had when I was a kid (top). More at StyleBubble.

Kronk Konsume

The uber talented Kronk is another friend who has joined the NIKE Originals campaign team and is doing phenomenal work for them (see the awesome promotional video here and spot him - the white kid in the specs), including the South African team kit for the massive World Cup 2010 here. I am excited to be doing a job with him in the upcoming future. Be warned: tread his flickr page lightly as there is too much awesome work to take in at once.

Mingo Lamberti

Local t-shirt brand Mingo Lamberti has finally hit the interweb and even though many of the tees in the range are sold out, drooling over his collabs with great artists and designers is still a great site.

Skull and Bones

Skulls seem to be making a reappearance again. I have no idea why, but I know that I want one.

Check out these sculptural pieces from Jiri Geller's "Dead Boy" (his Donald Duck inspired series is also very cool) and these beautiful shots in the recent Hedi Slimane diary entries (always a treat).

My Winter boots

Just came back from an awesome weekend in Franschhoek - good food, good wine, good country. Its beautiful out there and my belly is still bursting at the seams. With Winter around the way, all I can think of is food and Winter gear. I am no drabby dresser but I do love comfort - mine comes in the form of great sneakers. I am coveting these Nike SB Blazers. I bought a pair in New York last year, but who says I need to stop there, right?

Those minty fresh ones remind me of the cool hue floating around the fashion blogs lately, as mentioned on GreedyGirl.

So many pretty things! Why can't I have them all!?!?!?

Wardrobe

What would a blog be without a bit of lush-worthy street-style, huh? Dunno if it's the same chick, but if so, she's writing my style-bible.

Vena Cava

A colleague of mine has a Vena Cava dress (top right) and I really freak out every time I see it. I love the graphic prints and retro inspired cut of her pieces. This season is especially awesome, because she gained a lot of her inspiration from Ndebele African prints which we live with everyday in South Africa.

And if you've seen the lady Vena herself, her personal style is pretty cool.

The sun is still out here but these pretty tights are putting me in the mood for chilly weather.

Fashion mourns...

...the loss of iconic, genius designer Alexander McQueen. For a world that thrives on innovation, the daring and the beautiful, it will surely be empty without him.

Bag o' Dreams

For many months now, I have been hunting for the perfect everyday bag. A holdall which is small enough to find my cellphone quickly but big enough to hold a sketchbook and a favorite scarf. With a strap that is ornate and bulky, nips in ta the waist but doesn't graze the upper arm or cut into my shoulders. In a semi-hard leather that ages perfectly. Classic but filled with surprises.

Am I asking too much?

And when I do spot something that just meets these criteria, I flake because the price for such perfection is often high. However, I have decided to instead save and carefully invest (keyword) in a piece that ultimately fulfills and no longer compromise (and oh how I have compromised).

I have loved these puppies from local brand Missibaba for some time and they are definitely making my shortlist.

By the way, the photography is absolutely no testament to how beautiful these bags really are.
