Stockings

The sun is still out here but these pretty tights are putting me in the mood for chilly weather.

Fashion mourns...

...the loss of iconic, genius designer Alexander McQueen. For a world that thrives on innovation, the daring and the beautiful, it will surely be empty without him.

Bag o' Dreams

For many months now, I have been hunting for the perfect everyday bag. A holdall which is small enough to find my cellphone quickly but big enough to hold a sketchbook and a favorite scarf. With a strap that is ornate and bulky, nips in ta the waist but doesn't graze the upper arm or cut into my shoulders. In a semi-hard leather that ages perfectly. Classic but filled with surprises.

Am I asking too much?

And when I do spot something that just meets these criteria, I flake because the price for such perfection is often high. However, I have decided to instead save and carefully invest (keyword) in a piece that ultimately fulfills and no longer compromise (and oh how I have compromised).

I have loved these puppies from local brand Missibaba for some time and they are definitely making my shortlist.

By the way, the photography is absolutely no testament to how beautiful these bags really are.

Toffie

So excited about the Toffie Festival coming in March here in Cape Town. Thanks to Peet Pienaar at The President, we are getting to see some amazing creative minds - Kim Jones, Shawn Carboy, and my favourite, Siggi Eggertsson - and hear some awesome music (the amazingly cool Manta Raya). Ooooh, now to just score a ticket. I can't wait.

I will be posting examples of their individual work in weeks to come. Yay!

Wednesday Blues

What a **** day. I am having one of those where I just cannot seem to crack anything, my design log is used up, I have run out of clean laundry, and I am so so hungry - I can't remember the last time I sat down and ate - it always seems to be in front of my laptop these days. Oh dear, here comes the complain train.

There's definitely stuff to keep me cheered, though. Like keeping Grizzly Bear's Veckamist on continuous rotation on my playlist; this poster; this plum crumble; and these awesome socks (just as the weather seems to be turning too). Now, if only they were all at home waiting for me.

Unhappy Hipsters

You know what, I visit SwissMiss a lot more than I'll admit, but the lovely Tina Roth Eisenberg has an amazing eye for things that peak my interest on the www. Here is a little something she's posted that I just have to pass on. I have a morbid fascination with beautifully art-directed decor images too, but the funny captions just put a wonderful twist on it all. Made me laugh out loud!

Stacey Rozich

Wow, what beautiful pieces from Stacey Rozich. I love her folk art and their esoteric details. These would look great in my home with all my odd bits around them. Couldn't decide which ones to post - check the rest on her blog. There's plenty to covet. She also posts about an upcoming graphic novel she's working on (drool) - can't wait.
